Our kit has arrived and it looks and feels fantastic! I'll put up some photos after the weekend. Speaking of the weekend - it's our final training weekend before Euros. Can't believe it's so close now...

Results from a tough Tour 3 are up on the Twitter account. We ended up 7th having won 2 of 6 games, including a great fightback from 4 down to beat Fusion 13-12. Lots of good lessons learned.

The final mockup of the Ireland kit, as designed by the brilliant folk over at Lookfly, is below. We think it looks great!

Congrats to the 14 Ireland Open players who travelled with DU to Tour 2 and finished in 6th place. After a tough first day - DU 8-15 Fire 1, DU 9-15 Brighton 1, DU 6-15 Clapham, the lads beat Leeds 13-8 and Fusion 13-11 before losing narrowly 13-15 to Brighton 1, having been 6-1 down. Clapham beat GB Open in the final 15-12, with our very own Cian O'Morain taking centre stage.

Good luck to Dublin Ultimate this weekend who are off to UK Tour 2. They've been drawn in a group with Clapham, Fire 1 and Brighton 1. It also sees GB make their competitive bow for the season. Keep up to date here.

Last weekend saw a result that no Irish Ultimate team has achieved (on grass!) take place in Amsterdam as the Womens team beat GB Women! In a tight game the girls won 12-10 and went on to finish 3rd, earning themselves bronze medals. The Mixed team came 5th, beating the Russians along the way and losing out narrowly to the Austrians who came 2nd. Elsewhere Fergus McAuliffe, Brian O'Callaghan and Oisin Flanagan played with Skulltimate and came 8th in a very tight Open Division - an amazing result. Well played lads!

Full results, videos and some photos here.

Medals!

Training Weekend 5 is on tomorrow and its in Cork! Yeow!

It's been busy - that's all I got! In the past few month lots has happened - we've picked u[p some bad injuries, we've had 4 training weekends and we've attended two tournaments, performing well at both. Brugges was first - we split the squad and came 9th & 11th, winning Spirit and playing bloody well given we had a total of 19 players (at least at the start of the weekend!). Both teams were very close to quarters too... Tour 1 took place last weekend and we had a 19 man team. We lost a few, won a few and learned a lot. Best performance was probably the quarter final vs Chevvy but ran out of gas. Final position - 7th.

A busy bunch! Over the past few weeks lots of the team have been involved in various tournaments around the place - from the sun and sand in Tenerife to the rain and muck in Maynooth. Only one bad injury to speak of (luckily enough) - Niall's grazed knee. Keen to lead by example, Niall played on and then went dancing on tables until the knee's small graze really came to the fore. Upon the sight of blood the poor fella burst into tears. We made sure to get photos. Here are a couple of choice shots (courtesy of the ever-generous Laura McGrath):
'I think the skin broke around the edge'

 What are teammates for?

Everybody (except evil Pugzer) crowding around having a cry with 'Cry Me a River' blaring

Also, with Intervarsities next weekend we're hoping that nobody else will fall victim of the injury bug. Warm up well, don't do anything stupid and if you do get hurt, think to yourself 'What would Niall do?' and allow yourself a moment or two with the Kleenex (not like that Super).

A great effort from all three team saw the St. Patricks Day face-painting sessions go off! We raised lots of money, had loads of fun and painted everything from sheep to pints of Guinness onto the general publics face. A few pints were had afterwards too! Result!

More teams have entered the Open Division: Belgium, Denmark & Sweden. Final day to register is tomorrow. Still can't believe Slovenia don't have an Open team!

Quasar & bowling with the team this Saturday. Someone is going to be amusingly bad at one or both. We'll let you know after the weekend. Did you know:
  • Quasar has a set of 'internationally recognised' Rules?
  • To compete in the Irish 10 pin bowling championships you must have your name embroidered onto the back of your shirt and you are forbidden from wearing jeans.
  • Quasar is non-contact! What?? Not the way I used to play...
  • Paul Stott Jr's average score when winning the 2011 ITPBA Championships was 228 per game!

O8/03/2011
So far there are 14 teams in the Open division: Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Russia & Switzerland. There are a few notable absentees: Spain, Belgium, Sweden, Slovenia!, Slovakia, Luxembourg... Here's hoping they're on the way! It'd be great to see a 20 team division...
