24 of Irish Ultimate's best Open players have been selected to represent Ireland at the European Ultimate Championships in Maribor, Slovenia this August. This blog will document the team's season from the very start in Ireland right to the final games in Maribor.
The trials took place over one weekend in Dublin in late January with the squad announced 10 days later. There were 75 players originally interested and following two sets of cuts the final day saw 30 players compete for the 24 places. The team was chosen by the two captains & coaches along with the help of 2 external selectors and the opinions of many coaches/captains/experienced players around the country.
This is the biggest Irish squad ever to leave our shores. We will be looking to build on the 6th place finish we achieved at the last European Championships in 2007. There will be a Women's team and for the first time, a Mixed team also. A big season lies ahead...
